BISA Application – Instructions
The official language of the La Biagiola International School of Archaeology is English, and no knowledge of Italian is required.
However, we regard knowledge of Italian or French as an advantage.
Prerequisites
The School is open to undergraduate and graduate students in archaeology, classics, history, Cultural Resource Management, museum studies, and related disciplines. Admission is limited to 20 participants per session.
Although the archaeology field school is open to participants of all skill levels, we prefer that students complete at least one course in archaeological theory and excavation methods before applying. Students who meet this prerequisite will have priority.
However, we will consider applications from less experienced students and encourage anyone who is interested to apply. We will happily provide all necessary training.
Who can apply?
BISA is primarily a training programme for university students and early-career archaeologists, not a general volunteer excavation programme. Applicants who are no longer enrolled but hold relevant archaeological qualifications or are actively pursuing an archaeological career may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Previous field experience alone does not automatically satisfy the admission requirements.

Application
Before starting, you should gather your CV and information about your education, relevant experience, interests, and health. You also need to know which session or modules you want to join.
We use this information to create an optimal experience for you!

Supporting Documents
Within one week of acceptance, students must provide the following documents:
- A declaration confirming that they hold a valid passport or other travel document required for entry into and stay in Italy. ACT does not collect or retain copies of passports or other identity documents. Participants will present their documents directly to the accommodations provider upon arrival.
- A certificate of physical fitness for the planned activities, signed by a licensed medical professional.
- Proof of a valid and up-to-date tetanus vaccination.
- Proof of valid health, accident, and injury insurance covering the entire period of participation. Participants covered by the Italian National Health Service or holding a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) are exempt from this requirement. For all other participants, evidence that the insurance premium has been paid is sufficient; a full copy of the policy is not required.

Before beginning your application, please read all of the information about the school’s application requirements, project goals, accommodations, policies, curriculum, and other information. Our BISA webpage provides all of the necessary information.
